Clouds Moving Inland
Cloud shadows travel from the coast across open ground, changing the colour and apparent distance of the inland view.

Clouds moving inland make a broad landscape change in sections. Sunlit grass holds a dry gold colour, while the same ground under shadow becomes muted green and brown. The dividing line travels steadily across fences, scattered trees, and low rises without following any feature on the ground.
From a fixed point, the movement gives distance a temporary rhythm. A nearby field darkens first. Light remains on the next ridge, making it appear closer, then leaves that ridge and opens a brighter area beyond it. The land itself is still, but its visible layers are continually rearranged.
Weather written as shadow
The clouds are not uniform. Thin edges allow a soft brightness through, while deeper centres cast a cooler, more definite shade. Gaps send wide beams toward the ground. These beams move too slowly to seem dramatic and too quickly to become part of the permanent view.
Trees respond in smaller ways. Leaves turn in the wind before each shadow arrives. A pale trunk that was prominent in full sun blends into the field, then becomes clear again when the cloud passes. Birds cross between dark and bright ground without changing direction, briefly easier to see over one section than another.
The temperature also follows the pattern. In open sun, warmth rises from the path and dry plants release their scent. Under a large cloud the wind feels cooler, and insects quieten for a moment. The shift is slight, but repeated shade makes it noticeable over the course of an afternoon.
Toward the interior
As the cloud bank continues inland, openings begin to widen near the coast. The western sky becomes clearer while the view ahead remains divided by moving shadow. Rain may be visible beneath a distant cloud as a grey vertical veil, even when the ground nearby stays dry.
Late in the day, the shadows lengthen and join those cast by trees and ridges. It becomes harder to separate cloud shade from approaching evening. The last sunlit patch rests on higher ground, then fades. What remains is a cooler, more continuous landscape, with the clouds still travelling beyond the visible horizon.
